Eve

In three glorious days, my life had vastly changed. Matt lived up to his promises. The kittens were gone, and new ones were being interviewed. I wasn’t thrilled about scantily clad women parading themselves around the club, but I trusted Matt. He was more genuine than anyone I knew.

For being only twenty-five, he took life and his position as president seriously. He also treated me with respect and made me feel like the most important person to him. And the man sure knew how to care for my every need in the bedroom.

After seventy-two hours, I knew Matt Knight was it for me. He would say the same about me. It sounded crazy, even to me. But I wasn’t about to argue with fate.

My father would lose his mind when I brought Matt to the house.

I hadn’t seen my dad since the morning of my birthday. I’d gone home to grab an overnight bag when I knew he’d be at work and called to let him know I was okay. I told him I’d met a wonderful man, but I chickened out telling him who.

Checking myself in the bathroom mirror, I exhaled a nervous breath. Matt was waiting for me downstairs in his office. He’d demanded we go see my father so we weren’t sneaking around. If all hell broke out, Matt wanted to deal with it sooner than later.

He was right. Hell would break out.

I went downstairs and knocked on his closed office door.

“Enter.”

“Hey.” I smiled, poking my head through the crack.

Matt relaxed in his chair and patted his thigh. “Why does my girl look worried?”

I shut the door and took my spot on his lap. “You know why. Can’t we just wait a couple of more days? Let him calm down.”

“No, sugar. We discussed this. It’s better to get us out in the open. I won’t hide our relationship.”

He’d said the same thing when I tried to put off meeting his brothers and the prospects. I’d wanted to slow down the crazy train we were on. Everything was happening so fast, it overwhelmed me. All I wanted was a little more time to breathe and process.

On the positive, when I’d met Matt’s brothers, their shocked expressions had affirmed my feelings that Matt wasn’t screwing with me. Having me in his life and at the club was unprecedented—a decision he hadn’t made lightly.

Meeting Matt’s KLMC family had gone better than I’d hoped. I wished I could say the same about him meeting my dad.

“I’m afraid he’ll disown me.”

Dramatic much, Eve?

Matt wrapped me in his arms and pressed his lips to my temple. “He’d be a fucking idiot if he did.”

“If you were in his shoes, what would you do?”

“You’re a grown woman, Eve. Not much anyone can do.”

“So you’d be okay with your daughter being with your enemy?”

“No, because my enemies are dangerous, vile men. They don’t value human life as I do. Money and power are all they are after. I’m different.”

“You sure are.” I puckered my lips for a kiss.
